Minister Confirms Ministry of Defence Examining Security Risk from Chinese Cars, with Staff Told to Refrain from Secret Talk in Vehicles.

A defense official has confirmed that the Ministry of Defence is currently examining the potential security risks associated with Chinese cars, while staff have been instructed to refrain from discussing secret information in all cars.

Security Advice for MoD Staff

During a recently aired interview on a radio station, a defence minister addressed reports that MoD staff have been instructed not to talk about classified information while riding in China-made cars.

The minister stated that the MoD is “looking into” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, but stressed that security is a issue in every modern vehicles.

We have a fleet of tens of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles represent a tiny fraction.
But regardless of if you’re driving a Chinese car or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our people is to avoid connecting MoD technology into their vehicle, not to have discussions at a secret classification in any kind of vehicle, because of the growing risks of eavesdropping that exist in every single automobile, to restrict those confidential conversations in secure locations. That’s a wise and sensible thing for everyone worried about security.

When it was suggested that it would be prudent for the ministry to stop using every Chinese vehicles, the minister responded: ‘That’s precisely what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Wider Security Context

The announcement follows claims from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the existence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese electric buses, which could enable China to switch off buses and cause chaos to public transit.

Additionally, a Russia intelligence vessel was reportedly shining lasers at Royal Air Force aircrew, labeled a “highly dangerous” action by government representatives.

This broader security situation underscores the significance of robust protocols and caution in every areas of official activities, including transport usage to communication habits.
